The Project
A refurbishment of an existing high rise building in central London originally developed for a single tenant but now occupied by multi tenants.
D2E International Brief
Improve the method of cleaning the building and maintaining the facade after many years of neglect. The original method having proved to be extensive in labour and not accessing some parts to the building.
The Outcomes
New Technology The existing davits were removed from the majority of the building and the base used to support the new systems. These new systems would allow the majority of the building to be cleaned more efficiently and with less intrusion to the office spaces and access to parts of the facade not accessed previously. The specification for the access equipment was created incorporating a stakeholder approach so that all interested parties had an input into the design. A cradle company was selected using D2E International’s innovative 3D Pro® - a robust and objective analytical tool. This allowed not only the best technical solution to be chosen but the company that fully understood the managing agent’s requirements.
Reliability To meet the demanding standards of the client, the new cradles had to have a proven track record of reliability and one where accessability to the entire facade was possible. This was one of the key criteria for replacing the davits with a fully powered system. Other KPIs include measuring the quality and quantity of maintenance to ensure that the installer not only completed a high quality refurbishment but they also maintained the equipment to the highest standards. These actions fulfilled the KPI of long term reliability. Improved Access to the facades: A key tenant complaint was the access through the offices to access the terraces for rigging the systems, this was removed on most floors. This was replaced with an interior that is light and airy.
